Family and Parenting Institute's response to the Government's green paper
End Child Poverty
As member of the Campaign to End Child Poverty the Family and Parenting Institute urges all our supporters to join the Keep the Promise event held by End Child Poverty in London on Saturday 4 October 2008.
Growing up in poverty hurts. We can see the damage that poverty does to children and to our society and are demanding a better future for all our children.
The Government have made the boldest political promise of a generation to end child poverty. This was to halve child poverty by 2010 and end it by 2020. Although progress has been made since 1997, this progress has now stalled and the Government is not on track to meet the target.
Now, you can hold them to it. The Budget 2009 is the last realistic chance for the Government to meet the 2010 target and keep alive its promise to end child poverty. With your support, we can ensure that they Keep the promise of a generation and end child poverty. Over 110 organisations are coming together as the Campaign to End Child Poverty to hold the UK.s biggest ever event to end child
poverty. The Keep the Promise march and event will be held in London on Saturday 4th of October. This will provide children, families and other supporters of member organisations from across the UK a unique opportunity to show their desire for an end to child poverty and to set the agenda for the following parliamentary session.
