We have received backing from expert organisations wishing to show support for the vital role of health visitors.

The Family and Parenting Institute together with almost seventy organisations and experts in family and parenting, adult and infant mental health and children signed a letter to the new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, warning that the government's parenting agenda could be jeopardised with the erosion of a well-funded, well-trained health visitor service available to all parents with children under five.

A well-funded, well-trained universal health visitor service is a key tool to enable the early identification of vulnerable families and make sure they have access to early years support. Health visitors can also help tackle serious problems from postnatal depression, emerging parenting or behavioural difficulties and childhood obesity. But numbers are dropping dramatically across the country and the future of health visitors appears uncertain.
