Family Policy Conference 2011: One year on – what’s next?

FPI’s second annual Family Policy Conference will examine the impact of the Coalition Government’s policies on families and parents and ask – where next for a family friendly society?

Last year’s conference saw the launch of our Family Friendly Report Card – examining the UK’s performance in a range of 10 areas including child and pensioner poverty, housing and vulnerable children. It offered a clear way to assess progress towards the Prime Minister’s ambitions of becoming the most “family friendly government” ever.

This year we will launch the One Year On Report Card examining which areas have improved or got worse for families over the last year and debating potential routes forward. Sarah Teather, Minister of State for Children and Families has been invited to offer a response.

Confirmed speakers include:

Children's Minister Sarah Teather MP

Anne Marie Carrie, Chief Executive, Barnardo’s

Matt Oakley, Head of Enterprise, Growth and Social Policy – Policy Exchange

Paul Johnson, Director, IFS

Dr Katherine Rake, Chief Executive, Family and Parenting Institute

The conference is an excellent opportunity for policy makers, commentators and voluntary sector organisations to come together and debate a range of issues. Roundtable discussions will be led by organisations in the family sector and will focus specifically on the following subjects:

ØCost of raising a child & child poverty

ØCommercialisation and sexualisation of childhood

ØCouple relationships

ØEarly Intervention

ØFamily life and affordable housing

ØSpecial educational needs

ØServices for vulnerable children

ØWork life balance inc. maternity/paternity leave

ØEarly years

This is an invite only event.
