Family friendly services...
- are welcoming, respectful and non stigmatising to all families and family members
- work with families as they are, acknowledging that family groups are complex and often change fast
- recognise the needs of family members from across the family group and across the generations, beyond the parent/child unit
- deliberately reach out and shape their offer to specific groups such as fathers or carers that could miss out if their needs are ignored
- gather families' views on what they offer and how they offer it and respond to those views in specific ways
- genuinely prioritise families' requirements, rather than funding or legal requirements or other drivers
- regularly review all aspects of their offer to families – staff attitudes, behaviour and values communication with families plans, policies and procedures which govern what they do and how they do it
- are affordable in terms of price at the point of delivery
- are accessible and flexible in terms of opening/delivery times, physical access, environment and style/method of delivery
- are high quality in terms of everything they do for and with families
- plan and implement family friendly employment measures such as flexible work patterns
- are well integrated across professional or geographical boundaries in response to families' requirements
- know that small changes can make a big difference.
