Family and Parenting Institute's response to the Government's green paper
Internet safety
We all know the huge benefits children and young people can reap from engaging with the internet. However, we also know that there are inherent dangers in the online world which must be managed if we are to ensure that everyone enjoys the full range of opportunities the internet offers.
Internet safety has been important to the Family and Parenting Institute for a number of years. We believe that computers and digital technology are valuable educational tools, and increasingly a part of our daily lives. However, parents have told us of their concerns about some of the content and aggressive and often covert advertising children may be exposed to when they engage with this media.
Safer Internet Day takes place each February to promote safer and more responsible use of online technology and mobile phones, especially amongst children and young people across the world. To help support it this year we have pulled together a range of our resources and publications to help maximise children and young people's enjoyment of the digital world, whilst upholding their safety within it.
