‘Parenting together’ – reducing conflict and enhancing collaboration: a new intervention to strengthen the parenting alliance
FPI PC2008 workshop presented by Susanna Abse and Leezah Hertzmann
As part of our clinical services we are currently developing a service for couples experiencing difficulties with their parenting. In particular we have been working with parents who are in chronic conflict about parenting styles and issues. These parents may be living together as a couple, they may be separated or divorced, in same sex partnerships or in reconstituted families. What links them is that they can’t come together in a collaborative way to parent their children. We will present our experience of providing a service that helps couples work through some of the difficulties in their relationship which prevent them from parenting in a co-operative and effective way.
