Government consultation on blocking porn
May 04, 2012
The Family and Parenting Institute has welcomed the announcement of a Government consultation on how children can be better protected from internet pornography.
Chief Executive Dr Katherine Rake said: “It is currently very difficult for parents to protect their children from adult content. UK children now have a wide range of access to the online world – from devices in the family home to mobile phones and public wi-fi.
“That’s why a block on pornography and other extreme content should be the default standard setting on all UK internet provision. An ‘opt-in’ approach is about enabling parents to make a choice – not about restricting civil liberties.”
She added: “Internet service providers must be encouraged to play their part in creating a truly family friendly society. Such a society can only be realized when we protect children from being introduced to pornographic material too early.”
