Welfare Reform Bill - amendments have to be made says the Family and Parenting Institute

23 January 2012

TODAY, The Family and Parenting Institute is urging members of the House of Lords to support changes to the Welfare Reform Bill.

FPI wants to see child benefit removed from the benefit cap (Amendment 59) and for there to be a “grace period” of exemption for those affected (Amendment 60).

Dr Katherine Rake, CEO of the Family and Parenting Institute said: “We are concerned about the impact that these changes are going to have on the most vulnerable families.Research that we conducted with the Institute of Fiscal Studies shows that poverty rates will increase and families with three or more children will be particularly affected”.
