The Family and Parenting Institute holds a range of events, including a popular annual conference,regular seminars on a range of topics and Parents' Week each autumn, during which organisations around the UK put on fun, informative, engaging and participative activities.
2009
Parents' Week 2009 – the changing face of families: Monday 19 – Sunday 25 OctoberOver 300 events were held across the UK to mark the tenth annual Parents' Week. Children's Centres, Family Information Services, schools and voluntary groups organised advice sessions, family activities, listening events and competitions to promote and celebrate their work with parents and families.

Launch of Parents' Week and Listening Event- Monday 19 October 2009
Parents' Week was launched at the Think Tank museum in Birmingham with families from Parenting Fund projects across the city coming together to discuss 'what makes a Family Friendly service'. The parents and children were welcomed by Cllr Matt Bennett and Dr Katherine Rake and enjoyed a performance by the Malachi Kids.

The Family and Parenting Institute fronted a coalition of 12 leading family charities to attend the Liberal Democrat, Labour and Conservative Party Conferences in Autumn 2009.

Research seminar: Parenting Studies and their Policy Implications - 18 September 2009
This seminar discussed the findings of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation's parenting studies. This research is at the forefront of thinking about the nature and impact of parenting, and associated support needs. Three overarching themes were addressed - the impact of both income and cultural difference, and perspectives on parenting. In conclusion there was a discussion of the policy implications of the research during a period of public service contraction asking the question "What should the next Government's spending priorities be in terms of support for parents?"
Research seminar: Is parenting a class issue? - 02 July 2009
This research seminar discussed whether we can afford to ignore the voices and choices of the parents that parenting policies are seeking to help or overlook the local socio-cultural environments in which those policies are being implemented. Economic background remains the best predictor of life chances and social class is central to how parents see their place in Britain today.

The first of a series of events with lead figures from the major political parties, David Willetts MP outlined the Conservative Party's policies and views on family policy in England. What can and should the political parties propose to support families?
Launch: Future of Parenting Services: Filling in the gaps reports – 02 June 2009
The Future of Parenting Services discussion was jointly hosted by the Family and Parenting Institute and National Academy for Parenting Practitioners focused particularly on the assessment of population needs and patterns of spending. Four major new studies were presented which examines the current state of play and options for future development.
International working: Family Policy in England - 19-20 May 2009
British and Flemish family policy - a collaborative seminar to find best practice held with Flemish collegues with an interest in developing policy for educational support for parent of children up to the age of 18.
